Dean Thompson has over 30 years of leadership and management experience gained from working in multiple sectors. He joined City Utilities of Springfield, Missouri in 2007 and is currently serving as the Associate General Manager - Economic Development and SpringNet®.
Prior to working at City Utilities, Dean served as a Research Fellow for U.S. Senator-then Congressman Roy Blunt and represented Ward III on the Republic City Council until his appointment as Republic City Administrator. Some of the more notable accomplishments during his tenure in Republic include leading the consolidation of the City of Republic and Village of Brookline into one city; numerous public improvement projects totaling over $51 million of capital investment; and passage of a Home Rule Charter.
Dean joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 1985 and in 1990 was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant through Army ROTC at Missouri State University (MSU). He holds the rank of Colonel and Commands the 321st Civil Affairs Brigade. Previous military assignments entailed interagency collaboration with various U.S. Government agencies; working with assorted international and non-governmental organizations; and assisting military and diplomatic representatives from a variety of foreign governments in Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America.
Dean is the managing member of Teaghlach Partners, LLC; President of Strategos Consulting; serves as a member of the Systematic Savings Bank Board of Directors; and is actively involved in several community organizations.
Dean has a Master of Public Administration and Bachelor degrees from MSU; and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the Army War College. He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute and a certified Economic Development Finance Professional.
